Group Presentation Analysis
Starting my first semester in college as a freshman again, the initial week of my new journey introduced me to a challenge: the introduction to public speaking class. Our instructor, Sherri Sinkoff, separated the whole class into three groups, for our first and future projects. I was placed in group one. Within group one, I met my team of twelve participants, Jaely, Anabella, Matthew, Jessenia, Naomi, Rem, Darleny, Jessica, Kevin, and the leaders Samuel and Maria Carla. Professor Sinkoff gave us our first presentation. Almost the entire group met days after and we divided the chapters, organized and practiced it. I was afraid because I speak English but not as fluently as the others, and that is a big insecurity for me, but of course I kept going and tried my very best job in presenting. We covered chapter one, two, three and four of the textbook. Maria Carla handled the project introduction. Jessenia, Rem and Jaely were in charge of chapter one. They discussed what is the process, what to avoid, how to become an effective speaker and how to reduce the fears of presenting. Chapter two was splitted between Mathew and Kevin. They spoke about the foundations of public communication and tips for planning a presentation. Anabella presented the first half of chapter three; I presented the other. She illustrated how to search and evaluate topics. I explained the purposes of speeches: the general purposes, the specific purposes, the thesis statement and the three-step process. Chapter four was exposed by Jessica, Darleny and Naomi. They talked about analyzing the audience and situation, also how to adapt to the audience. Lastly Samuel did the conclusion, he wrapped everything up. I found myself growing academically but also experiencing personal transformation. The introduction to public speaking class challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, confronting my fears, and getting better communication skills. Looking back to the first week, I realized that this class has not just introduced me to the art of public speaking, but it has increased self-assurance and given me teammates that are now my friends. This is a college experience that I would carry with me throughout my academic journey.
After our presentation, it was group two’s turn. They had the responsibility to display chapter five through nine. The chapters were divided between two individuals. The first part, presented by Bryan and Alexander. They explained the benefits and importance of research. Also, how to evaluate and use sources of information plus identifying appropriate supporting materials. Chapter six covered by Mayla and Joel, explaining why organizing is important, the principles of outlining, what holds a presentation together, and tips on how to introduce and conclude a presentation. They introduced the practice of using outlines, a method I have always found helpful for structuring my thoughts. This approach helps in preventing audience confusion and contributes to maintaining a smooth presentation flow, ensuring their engagement and entertainment. Tania and Kayli discussed chapter seven, where they spoke the information about delivering speeches; what is effective delivery, modes of delivery, how to use your voice successfully and your body to communicate effectively. Delivering information is a crucial part in a presentation. This is because even if you have a well prepared presentation with the most valuable information, the incorrect form of being delivered can result in the audience losing interest or the audience not paying attention. They also covered the five modes of delivery which are to memorize, manuscript, extemporaneous, impromptu, and question & answer. This included eye contact, body language, volume, and enunciation. Chapter eight was presented by Bryan and Kenny referring to choosing your own words. They talked about the characteristics of language, improving the clarity and style of language. They show us how powerful language can be, and knowing your target audience, simplifying your vocabulary, and providing context can help to clarify. Concluding with this group we had Maria and Ana in chapter nine, they spoke about the visual resources and presentation technology, illustrating the benefits of using visual and sensory aids, what type should we use, how to use them and how to keep your focus on the message. Sensory aids help in engaging multiple senses, showcasing thorough preparation and comprehension, indicating a heightened level of understanding, and maintaining the audience's focus and interest. This can be used in photos and videos.
Following and finishing up this whole class project, we had group three presenting chapter ten through appendix. Amanda, Ashley and Stephanie touched section ten, the principles of informative presentation, their purpose and how to improve it. Outlining four essential skills, defining, describing, explaining and demonstrating. Defining, clarifying why a specific word was chosen. Describing, using precise and descriptive language to convey the subject. Explaining, addressing how things work, why they happen or how to evaluate them. Demonstrating involves visually representing explanations. Chapter eleven was explained by Amber and Bethany in which they talked about presenting persuasive messages. They discussed the impact of persuasive arguments on shaping the audience's perspectives and opinions regarding the topic being presented. They gave three categories of persuasive presentations which are to convince, inspire, or motivate the audience to take specific actions. Carlos, Javier and Laura were in charge of chapter twelve. They focused on the topic of speaking on special occasions and the necessary preparation for such presentations. They emphasized that these occasions have unique characteristics, including distinct purposes, styles, organizational requirements, and levels of formality, which set them apart from typical presentations. The appendix was explained by Adrian and Marc, centered in group presentations. They highlighted the advantages of working in small groups, including reduced stress due to shared responsibilities, increased interactivity, and better coordination. This was very important because our project was also a group effort. Their presentation emphasized the importance of learning how to effectively collaborate in groups, a skill essential not only in academics but also in one's career and life.
Each presentation added new layers to our comprehension of public speaking, providing us with valuable information and strategies to perfect our skills to communicate effectively.

Great reflection! Great job!
