Our First presentation in speech class!!

💕  As a class member and team member myself, I will say that I am so proud of everyone for   filling us with new and valuable information that'll help us further our expertise in presenting and public speaking and for battling through the nerve wrecking anxiety most of us feel when were presenting our about to present to a big audience. I am happy to say we successfully got through our first presentation, we killed it!! I also hope everyone learned something from this and can use the pros and cons to strengthen your speech ability as it'll be a crucial technique to our essential presentation class. 💞

Group one

Group one was pieced together by team members Jessenia, Rem, Jaely, Matthew, Kevin, Anabella, Gabriela, Jessica, Darleny and Naomi. There were a total of 4 chapters and each were deliberately explained to help us understand the meaning within each chapter.

(Before I begin, I want to talk a little bit about my experience in group one and the different tactics I used to compose my part of the presentation. I had the second to last 6 pages of chapter 4. To begin my presentation I read every paragraph on each page and took notes on information that seemed most viable to me and which I thought would inform my classmates best. I wrote side notes and extra information so this would be what I would speak about while I was presenting, this was my way of going into more detail about the viable info i highlighted. While doing this I looked (and was) informed. It is important to be able to read off your PowerPoint but not HAVE to! However… I got nervous and read off my PowerPoint..lol. I was so and I mean so prepared I recited over and over the day before and the day of but not matter how much I recited when it got to the moment of being up there with the mic it was out of my control to not look at my notes  and have words to rely on. Regarding our team work, I really have no complaints. We were all communicating every step of the way since the first day, we got along so well. I believe this made us comfortable with each other encouraging conversation and bonds between us.)

  • Chapter 1 was presented by Jessenia, Rem, and Jaely. They taught us methods to get rid of fears and anxieties for presenting as well as what to avoid in a presentation along with the effectiveness of presenting. I learned that competent speakers must make choices regarding the appropriateness and likely effectiveness of topics, attentions strategies, style, delivery, evidence and persuasive strategies. It is important that when giving a speech you have to be aware of the signals sent from the audience that indicate lack of interest, confusion, disagreement etc. Managing anxiety before, after, or during presentations is also very important. Self- defeating thoughts and anxiety provoking situations are primary causes if dysfunctional speech anxiety which can affect your performance level.
  • Chapter 2 was worked on and presented by Mathew and Kevin. They spoke about the foundations of public speaking and types of presentations. It was key to me that If you are assigned a speech of introduction, consider a narrative speech, which tells a story through multiple components. Kevin although fairly quiet, really showed us well spoken and presented key points.
  • Chapter 3 was done by Annabella and Gabriella. They taught us the purposes of speech. What do people give speeches for? To persuade, inform, express themselves towards something they might agree or disagree on. There’s always a purpose when giving a speech it’s up to you to determine what it is and how you’ll effectively get that point across.
  • Last chapter was done by Jessica, Darleny, and Naomi. We spoke about how to properly prepare for a presentation. This included audience analyzation and getting a feel of the audience members before a presentation so you can effectively put together a speech that’ll be understood by them correctly and will reach the right audience . I think we did an outstanding job, getting a feel of this first presentation really put me in perspective of what to expect in the class; the information was also very important and is to be noted for future reference.

  •   Group two

Group two was a collaboration of Bryan, Alexander, Mayla, Jorel , Tania, Kayli, Bryan, Kenny, Maria and Ana.
  • Bryan and Alexander opened up with chapter 5. Finding information to use while they prepared their presentations was the main topic of this chapter. You'll discover how and why research benefits you. Additionally, it will aid in locating and assessing information sources.
  • Chapter 6 was presented by Mayla and Joel. They taught how to correctly structure a presentation to deliver the content, maintain audience engagement, and make sure the message flows logically.
  • Chapter 7 was presented by Tania and Kayli, examined a number of efficient delivery methods, including pitch, body language, and voice control. A presentation can become great by mastering these aspects.
  • Chapter 8 was presented by Kenny and Bryan. This chapter described the role of language in a public presentation. comprehending language's features is essential to comprehending communication, and understanding semantics is necessary for effective public speaking.
  • Chapter 9 was presented by Maria and Ana. This chapter shows how using sensory aids can be advantageous. How to focus on the message being conveyed while employing various visual and sensory aids. Speaking situations need the use of several senses, provided that speakers are aware of how to do so.
My overall opinion: If I’m not mistaken, group 2 had some communication issue where they didn’t really speak to each other through the zoom breakout rooms or chats. This is totally understandable considering the fact that it was online and effective communication can get tricky. Considering this, they presented like it never happened and like they’ve been speaking since day 1. They effectively got their point across in a way that was easy for me to absorb and be interested in. The PowerPoint had slides that were very much different from the rest, however this doesn’t necessarily have to be negative. They all did a very good job.

Group three

Group three was chapters 10-12 and the appendix. The presentation included members Amanda, Ashley! Stephanie, Amber, Bethany, Carlos, Javier, Laura, Adrian, and Marc.

  • Chapter 10 brought to us by Amanda, Ashley and stephanie provided instances of educational presentations and outlining methods for aiding others in understanding the material, they covered the primary strategies of disseminating knowledge. They also provides illustrations of informative speaking abilities.
  • Chapter 11 put together by Amber and Bethany centered on communicating persuasive ideas, including cause-and-effect relationships and analogies. Before delivering a convincing speech, the audience should be properly examined; this requires knowing what to look for.
  • Chapter 12 was presented by Carlos, Javier, and Laura. They Addressed important events such as weddings or funerals, and establishing the proper mood for each one. When giving a public statement, context-sensitivity is crucial.
  • Appendix, made by Adrian and Marc. They thought us how to effectively work as a team to put presentations together.
Personal opinion: In group three you could tell that the members were shy and timid while presenting. This was obvious because of the reading off the screen to try to quickly end the presentation. That would be the only constructive criticism comment I’d have towards them. I was absolutely the same way while presenting, you can’t really control what your mind wants to fight or flight to, however it’s always important to try to calm yourself down so it doesn’t affect your presentation.
